What a stunning painting! The artist demonstrates incredible mastery of the medium and truly stunning control in the brush strokes. The use of lines in the trees in the background sets off the subject and guides the eye across the whole of the composition in a very pleasing way. The skulls that comprise the ground compliment the dia de los muertos face of the subject brilliantly and promotes a consistency that ties the whole piece together. Also, the conservative use of color of the flower and the slight blue tint to the background in an otherwise monochrome piece adds "pop" and interest that lends a moodiness to the piece complementary to the subject.
Also, a Nine Inch Nails reference? Be still my beating heart.
